For optimal performance and warranty coverage, the water supply must meet specific guidelines: Total dissolved solids less than 60 PPM, Total alkalinity less than 20 PPM, Silica less than 13 PPM, Chlorine less than 1.5 PPM, and a pH Factor between 6.8 - 7.3. Use of Crown's (Middleby's) Water Treatment System is recommended if these standards are not met.
The boiler water level control, and specifically its float chamber, must be flushed at least once a day to remove accumulated sand, scale, and sediment that could interfere with its operation. Failure to do so can cause the control to malfunction and lead to serious boiler damage.
CSD-1 controls include critical safety features such as a high temperature safety device, a high pressure safety switch, and a second low water safety cut-off. These devices shut down the boiler and indicate a lockout condition if temperature, pressure, or water levels exceed safe limits.
It is recommended that the boiler be checked every 90 to 120 days for scale buildup. Regular descaling maintenance should be carried out at this time to maintain efficiency and prevent damage.
During normal operation, the boiler pressure gauge should indicate a steam pressure in the range of 9 to 11 psi. The boiler is designed not to exceed 15 psi, as per ASME Code.
The boiler is equipped with a second low water safety cut-off. If the water level falls below normal operating levels, the boiler will automatically shut down and enter a lockout state, indicated by 'LOW WATER' and 'STANDBY' pilot lights.
